Courageous DVD Giveaway!!!

"Honor begins at home" This movie is a much needed call to fatherhood, we need our men to rise up and be men of courage, to lead their families, to be present....to be intentional.

"Courageous" is the newest project from Sherwood Pictures Ministry, the amazing force that brought us "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof".  Their first project was called "Flywheel" and although I really, really liked "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof", I like "Flywheel" the best, no matter how low-budget it was.....that is, until "Courageous".

Mr. Steady and I went to see this with our good friends at the theater.  It was so moving and profound that Mr. Steady then took The Thinker and The Reader to see it at the dollar cinema.  That's huge for Mr. Steady because he's not really a movie guy...well, he says he doesn't mind movies, he just doesn't like paying for them.

After seeing the trailer I knew I would need tissues but I wasn't prepared for the humor this movie has sprinkled within.  It is a very serious matter and one that needs to be shared with every man in America and with every woman raising a son, but the humor was so unexpected and quite frankly, made the movie.

I am so excited to announce that Focus on the Family has provided me a DVD of the movie to giveaway!  Focus on the Family is dedicated to helping families thrive and they have a plethora of resources available on this topic and more.  Other fantastic resources for family shepherding are available from Voddie Baucham and Kevin Swanson.

To enter the drawing, simply leave a comment below with one of two responses:
a. If you have seen the movie, tell us your favorite part (without spoiling it for others).
b. If you haven't seen the movie yet, tell us how you think we, as wives, can best support and encourage our husbands and sons to be courageous.

To receive a second entry, post a comment on Facebook or write a blog post about this contest, linking your friends and viewers back to this blog post and then leave a second comment that you did so.

Contest with end January 31 at midnight and the winner will be announced on February 1.  You must leave a way for me to contact you in your comment if your name isn't linked to your blog or email address.

Disclaimer: I was provided with a complimentary copy of the Courageous DVD from Focus on the Family.  All opinions expressed are solely mine and I am not being compensated in any way for this giveaway.

  1. The best part of the movie was the hottie that accompanied me as I waisted $30 when we could have waited and gotten the dvd from the library and shared it with everybody who reads this blog and their extended families thus saving not only our $30 but hundreds of dollars for everyone! Oh loved the movie.. but i'm going to get lunch... a chicken sandwich... maybe some fries.... hsssssssßsss

  3. I would be so thrilled to win and my daughter would be even more so!

I really like the pledge the men take and of course the part when Adam and Javier are trying to figure out who Javier was! They did such a good job with the movie. Laughing one minute and crying the next then laughing again.

  4. I haven't seen it, but I hear it is really great.
I think one way we can encourage our men to be courageous is to love them, and encourage them in all that is godly. Praying for them can do wonders for them.

  5. I have seen the movie and was so blessed by it. Our Pastor always said the enemy will strive to remove the father out of the family unit because in doing so it causes a lot of hardship for them... Especially the children. In today's show it's easy to see how the role of the father is ridiculed, belittled and are made to look like jerks. How. An children watch these shows and respect their dads (parents as a whole). So the movie Courageous was not only amazing and encouraging it spoke volumes on integrity, honor, love etc. We need more movies like this one! I would love to win the free copy so I can watch with members of my extended family who are not saved. Xoxo!

I too liked the part about trying to figure out who Javier was but I loved the beginning. They did an excellent job with that.

  9. I have posted a comment already but did it thru my phone... so couldn't see all of what I needed to do... so...

I have seen the movie and the best part for me that I felt touch my heart was when the pastor said... "Would you rather be angry for the years you did not have with her, or thank God for the years you did have?"... We tend to let our emotions control us and choose to be angry... but if we control our emotions... we can instead look at it in a positive way and be grateful to God for there is a reason for it and a lesson to be learned.

  11. I'm waiting to watch the movie with my sons and husband. I think we wives/mothers need to give the men in our lives room to do manly things. We often hover and fuss and probably need to let them go, regardless of our concerns about how clean or safe they might be!

  12. I think the best way to help my husband and sons be courageous is to speak words of truth and encouragement into their lives, building them up in who God has created them to be. When they more fully embrace His amazing love for them and better understand the gifts and anointing He has on their lives, they can better walk in that and live out what He has planned for them. This will always be a courageous calling and so much bigger than themselves.

  15. I loved the whole movie, but especially how it encouraged my husband, he would like to make the wall poster now! :)
I love how it shines a GOOD light on men and does not downplay the importance of a father.

  16. I have not seen the movie yet & would like to. I think building up my husband to my boys & never sharing anything negative or tearing him down, not only blesses and shows respect to him, but makes them want to be strong & courageous like him. Melanie Todd (you have my email)

  17. I really liked how it motivated me as a wife and a mother to start doing what I KNOW I need to be doing, I think that if husbands saw their wives walking in their path they would feel more supported.

  18. cool i have not seen the movie so i would really love to win. but, takingcare of the fathers and sons begins on our knees. ipray every night for the boys to give them wisdom in their decisions they make! being kind, interested in their lives and letting them know we are standing up for them. Criticism kils!

  19. It's so hard to pick... I'll go with a funny moment - the one where Javier inadvertently ends up at the one guy's house and starts working for him. Hilarious!

  20. My husband and I really need to see this movie. He has been unemployed for over 2 years and it has had a major impact on his self worth, parenting and relationship with me. I know it would be encouraging for him to know what "courageous" really means. Recently he stood up for what he thought was right in a big way. I was so proud of him. Words of encouragement really help!

  22. I watched Courageous in the theatre without my husband. Would love for him to see the movie. I loved that the movie had humor in addition to the message it conveyed. Very well made. Been reading here for a while (in secret)ha, ha. Still need to pick your brain about homeschooling.
